I remember going snowboarding for the first time in January. I took the lesson with my best friend and it seemed to be great on the learning slope (because it was flat..lol!!). I felt like I had control as I could control my speed but then it was time to go up the beginner’s slope. This thing looked like a “black diamond” slope to me as it was my first time. The instructor allowed me to start from the middle of the slope and go down by myself while the other participants went to the top. I went down from the middle and it was awesome!! I gained speed but I was able to see where everything ended. I felt confident. As I watched the other’s come from the top, it looked like so much fun. I mean some people fell and got back up while others stayed up the whole way. When the session was over, I realized that I wanted to try to start from the top of the slope. I went up and I kept falling on purpose when I started to go too fast as fear stopped me from doing what was right in front of me. I got upset and cried out” what is going on, I want to do this in Jesus name!” By the time I got to the middle of the slope, I automatically felt a peace and snowboarded down. Fear and perception was the only thing stopping me from coming down the whole way. I was taught how to turn, stop, and position but my mind was not in agreement with what I knew to be fact.
We as people are like this with God. He has given us instruction through the Holy Bible, Holy Spirit, and his voice on a daily basis, but often, we let the things of the world distract us due to our own perspective. This can get in the way of what God has for us.
You know how you can see the path for a maze when you are positioned on top of it to see all of the paths but when you are inside the maze, the perspective is quite different as there are barriers which can delay you’re journey and make it difficult due to having to turn around. Well, this is how I picture God’s perspective is. God has more than a bird’s eye view of all of us and knows our paths. He always has a bigger and more clear perspective.
The book of timothy tells us that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. We are placed in different positions and experiences because we are equipped with what is needed to be successful. Let’s trust this fact and move forward with victories big and small.
What fear is blocking you from moving forward?
