Valentine’s Day has come and gone and I pray that you continue to shine God’s love with all that you encounter. It is not just about the one day of the year that society has to tell you to buy chocolates and flowers that you should show your love and appreciation, it’s every day. Love-This world defines love as an intense feeling of deep affection. When someone loves another, they give. It can be time, gifts, emotions, etc. I see love as a great sacrifice in a great way. A great example of life is how mothers show there love every day for their children. Do you know that God’s love is greater than this? One of the first verses from the Bible that we learn as children at home or Sunday school is found in John 3:16- for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son so that whosoever believed in him will not parish but have every lasting life. God sent his son(Jesus) to live, love, and teach on this earth and go through suffering just so that the rest of us would be saved and have what God has for us eternally. This action is the greatest expression of LOVE that I have ever known. Think about it, from when we were young we were taught that the ultimate sacrifice shows love through the form of giving. God GAVE his son, Jesus GAVE his life. It’ssomething that we all can connect with because for the most part, we have all had a mother, father, or some type of caregiver/ family that we care for in the human form and can see how big of a sacrifice this is.
1 John 4:7-10 reads, “Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
I think of how I love my family (parents and siblings). As I became an aunt, I acquired a love that I never knew that I would have for my nieces and nephews. If they need anything that I have, it is theirs. If there is something that they need and I can get it for them, I will. I didn’t even give birth to them and I love them the way that I do and show them by spending time, giving, and pouring into their lives.
I love my best friend and husband so much even before I am married to him. Some may ask how this is possible and this is because I know that I want what is best for him, I know that I want to give to him and support him with everything he needs, and I know that as long as he loves the Lord and follows God’s word that I can trust him with my love. I know that I will love my children with a deeper and different love that I have never felt before. I am not expecting right now, but I know that a mother loves a baby before it is even born. As it grows inside of her, she has a connection with something that she cannot yet see. She takes action with her diet, rest, and environment to change what’s needed in her life because she knows that everything she does can affect the child. I will do this Lord willing.
I pray that when we encounter others that we recognize that we interact with God’s children who are loved by him every day and should be loved by us. I encourage practice showing your love to others unconditionally daily.
How can you show your love for others today in a great way?
