Businesses, schools, and homes were told to prepare for possible power outages, road closures, food/ water shortages, damage, and more. While preparing, I had lists in my mind that included: water, bread, peanut butter, snacks, sandbags, wood, flashlights, and more. When I went to several stores, I saw long lines, frustrated people, and an abundance of supplies. God prompted me to be still and observe while I was in one of the busiest stores, and I really got to see the true nature of some people. Some people were so greedy in their efforts to prepare. I couldn’t help but stop and think “are you ready for Jesus to return?”. Do people make the same efforts to serve God on a daily basis in the way that they are preparing for impending danger/ weather?
God continued to speak to me and I realized that if we stay ready, then we will not have to scramble to get everything together at the last minute. While we can stock up with tangible items like: water, food, sandbags, and much more things for a hurricane, how about we maintain our supplies needed weekly. Its easy to check off a box of completion in the physical sence of supplies but what about our souls?
Every day is an opportunity to share and trust Gods word. Everyday is an opportunity to display Gods fruits of the spirit. When we do this with obedience, we are able to let Gods will be done in every area of our lives. The Bible gives us examples of how to prepare for the lords return and one of my favorites is of the 10 bridesmaids.
““Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. The five who were foolish didn’t take enough olive oil for their lamps, but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil. When the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. “At midnight they were roused by the shout, ‘Look, the bridegroom is coming! Come out and meet him!’
Then the five foolish ones asked the others, ‘Please give us some of your oil because our lamps are going out.’ “But the others replied, ‘We don’t have enough for all of us. Go to a shop and buy some for yourselves.’ “But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked. Later, when the other five bridesmaids returned, they stood outside, calling, ‘Lord! Lord! Open the door for us!’ “But he called back, ‘Believe me, I don’t know you!’ “So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.” Matthew 25:1-6, 8-13 NLT
We have to stay ready by seeking God first, meditating in HIS word, praying, taking action in Gods direction, and maintaining relationship with God. I know that we have to come to the lord daily for help and I encourage you to intentionally prepare your hearts and souls for our saviors return.
